Between the wars
Stanley's Type 12 (1919–1924) brought the taller high knob, and after Stanley Rule & Level merged with the Stanley Works in 1920 the irons carried the Sweetheart logo. STANLEY appeared on lever caps in 1925, a raised ring to hold the knob in 1929, and the kidney-shaped lever cap hole in 1933, when the heart came off the logo. Stanley tried aluminum bench planes from 1925 and pressed-steel ones from 1926 too. Disston trimmed its catalog through the 1920s, brought out lightweight saws in 1927 and redesigned them in 1928, and a 1940 magazine claimed 75 percent of handsaws sold in the US were Disstons.
