Millbury, Massachusetts · 1853 into the 2000s
John, Charles and Richard Buck grew up in the Sheffield edge-tool trade, worked for D. R. Barton in Rochester, New York, and started Buck Brothers in Worcester, Massachusetts, in 1853. In 1864 they built a shop in Millbury on the stream where T. H. Witherby had worked, and in 1878 R. T. Buck built the Riverlin Works and twenty houses for his workers. Charles left in 1872 to run his own Charles Buck Edge Tool Company, which rejoined Buck Brothers in 1915. The catalogs sold chisels, gouges, carving tools and plane irons to carpenters, patternmakers and carvers. The family sold the firm in 1948, and it became part of Great Neck Saw, which still uses the Buck Bros name.
